Back on Black!

Hello everybody! A great fashion trend that I’m seeing is the same color, but layered on top of each other. I’ve seen it with white shirts and white pants with a nice gold belt, or I’ve seen it with dresses with the exact same color jacket to go with it. Since I’ve seen this emerging as a trend, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and do the same thing, though with a bit of a twist. Since it is after Labor Day, I’m a bit more afraid to try the white on white, though I will give it a try in summer. So because of this, I chose to go with black on black. I was also dying to try out my new red lipstick, and let’s face it, red lips with a black outfit makes every girl walk with her head held high. Anyways, black on black. Rather than go with a completely black outfit, though I was tempted, I went with jeans, a black tank top, and a black sweater. Now, to pull this look off well, you need another brighter color thrown in to tie it all together, otherwise it just doesn’t work well. I mentioned a gold belt with the white on white. I threw on a cheetah print scarf instead. It helped to add a pop of pattern to my otherwise boring black/black outfit, and if the compliments I got while I was out shopping were any indication, the outfit was hot. Audrey would have been proud to wear that outfit and show off her style.
Now, while these outfits are a great trend, I would be very cautious with you using it with any color. Neutral colors seem to work really well (black, white, nude, etc.). However, I don’t suggest layering red on red, or yellow on yellow. That would just make you look like a highlighter, and we all know that is never a good look, unless it’s a Halloween costume. Plus, when you do the black on black, make sure you have an accessory or another piece of clothing that distracts from it and adds a touch of another color. If not, it most likely won’t be the best look, though who knows, you could pull it off. Something to break up the color is always a plus though, so a nice belt is good, or a scarf, or even a brightly colored bag and matching shoes. You can get creative with these ideas, and if you go with bright shoes and a bright bag, it’s even better to wear a nice neutral outfit so that everyone’s attention goes where it needs to.
I have included a picture of me modeling my outfit for everyone to see what I came up with. I love trying out new things and encourage you all to do the same. Fashion is fun, and even if you make a fashion faux pas, remember every celebrity has had that moment too, it’s not the end of the world.
